Why Mow Regularly?

Helps Prevent Weeds

When your grass is cut to the proper height (not too long or too short), it blocks sunlight from reaching weed seeds. This makes it harder for crabgrass, dandelions, and clover to grow.1 Additionally, dense grass naturally crowds out weeds by leaving them less space to grow.

Improves Lawn Appearance

Regular mowing makes your lawn look neat, even, and well-maintained. This is especially beneficial for businesses trying to make a good impression on customers.

Fertilization Services

Because fertilization depends on your grass type, soil conditions, and time of year, it's important to find a Draper yard fertilizer company that can personalize your service.

At Hot Shot, we tailor every application to your lawn's specific needs and ensure every service includes:

Replenishes Nutrients Depleted from Soil

As your lawn grows, it uses nutrients stored in the soil to produce new growth, strengthen its roots, and recover from everyday stress. Over time, those nutrients become depleted. Regular fertilization replaces them, helping your lawn stay healthy and continue growing.

Improves Drought & Disease Resistance

A healthy, properly fertilized lawn is better able to handle environmental stress. Strong roots help grass access moisture during dry weather, while proper nutrition improves its ability to resist common lawn diseases such as brown patch, dollar spot, and leaf spot.

Mowing & Fertilization FAQs

Yes. Regular lawn care helps your grass stay healthy, resist weeds and disease, and recover from everyday foot traffic, mowing, and environmental stress. It also improves your home's curb appeal and can help prevent costly lawn repairs in the future.

Most lawns should be mowed once every 5 to 7 days during the active growing season, which is typically spring through early fall. During late fall and winter, grass grows much more slowly, and in some areas it will stop growing entirely after the first snowfall.

Rather than following a strict schedule, mow as needed to maintain the recommended height for your grass type and avoid removing more than one-third of the grass blade at a time.

Most established lawns benefit from fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks, or about 2 to 4 applications per year. The ideal schedule depends on your grass type, soil conditions, and climate.

For many homeowners, yes. Professional lawn care companies use commercial-grade products and know when, where, and how much fertilizer to apply based on your lawn's needs. This helps avoid common DIY mistakes like overfertilizing, underfertilizing, or using the wrong products, all of which can lead to poor growth or lawn damage.

That depends on the type of grass you have.

  • Cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, and fine fescue are typically fertilized in early spring and again in the fall.
  • Warm-season grasses such as Bermuda grass, Zoysia, St. Augustine, and centipede grass should be fertilized after they’re out of dormancy in late spring.

Starting too early or too late can reduce the effectiveness of fertilizer.

Yes, when it is applied correctly. Most fertilizers are safe once they have been watered into the soil or after the waiting period listed on the product label. As a precaution, children and pets should stay off the lawn until it is safe to return.

They went above and beyond what was expected for a sprinkler repair. The price was fair and I can really tell the owner values it's customers. I will definitely keep coming back for all of my repairs.

I called the office and Reese got me scheduled with the guys for the next day! The guys came out and got my sprinklers dialed in. They suggested I have Parker come out to help me make my yard more water efficient and remove old flower beds filled with weeds. Jeri got Parker to come out and he created an amazing design! Not cheap but worth it.

I just moved to the area and had so many problems with my sprinklers- so many dry spots! Jeri took great care of me and got me scheduled. Reese came and took pictures and was very mindful of my requests. Sprinklers work great, grass is getting greener, with their fertilizer packages and lawn mowing services I don't have to worry... they take care of everything!
  • Jeri Baldwin
Initially I had them come to repair a couple broken sprinkler heads in the front yard, which they did. As the weather has progressed I noticed my back yard was having some dry spots, so I called had them come out again. Turns out, I had drip lines on the same valve as some sprinklers! They got it all straightened out! Friendly people like Reese answer the phone and the technicians were extremely knowledgeable and professional Erik & Alexis were amazing!

  • Sarah Farnsworth (GovOps)
We've been in our new house and this is our first spring/summer with this sprinkler system. We had a broken back flow preventer, and purchased a new one but were hesitant to install it. We called yesterday and they came this morning. Two techs came out, Alexis and Eric, who have been amazing! They did the work quickly and when we asked were able to check the sprinkler system (which had not been part of the inital request for service). All in all it was about 2 hours worth of work and parts for the new nozzels and repairing some drip irrigations leaks. I am so impressed with their professionalism and efficiency. Thank you both!

Update (5/20/26): I’ve used Hot Shots twice a year since 2023, and the employees who come to my home have always been professional, courteous, and reliable. The actual service work has consistently been good. This year, however, I was unexpectedly charged 40 days after the service was completed. When I called, I was told their accounting system had recently been updated and they were “cleaning things up.” While I understand system changes happen, charging customers more than a month later without warning isn’t a great experience — especially after receiving a $0 due invoice on the day of service, which indicated the balance had already been paid. To be clear, I did owe the balance and had no issue paying it. My concern was that the charge should have been processed on the day of service or clearly communicated in advance. The company has since reached out and apologized for the experience, which I genuinely appreciated. The service itself has always been solid, and I’m hopeful this was simply a one-time billing issue.

Hot Shot is an amazing company: professional, reliable and prompt. Not only were Parker and his team knowledgeable and competent, Parker has a gift for design and my new garden and lawn layout is the most beautiful I've ever had at a home. The office team is just as good -- Geri will know you by name after the first call and is a firecracker. Five stars all around.
  • Bob Kaufman
I contacted Hot Shot because I needed to replace a leaking master valve. They quoted me a reasonable price and stuck to that price even though the project was more involved and time-consuming than they'd originally estimated. Adrian and Alfredo were happy to explain things to me as they progressed through the task. They stayed late and came in on a weekend to complete the project. When I reached out to the office to confirm things, the call taker was easy to understand and courteous.
  • Erik Ostebo
Colton helped me out today and winterized my setup. Appreciate you guys and thank you for showing me some stuff as well. Will continue to use this service as it’s professional and gets the job done! Thanks guys.
